rite of reception
October 18 2025
On 18 October 2025, the Church celebrated the feast day of Saint Luke the Evangelist who wrote the gospel of Luke in the Bible. In addition to this, it was a great day to welcome new members of the Syracuse Lay Dominican Order, both Michael (in the middle) and Peter (to the right). Both have shown their dedication to the service of the Church and God by fulfilling their six month postulancy modules where they learned about Saint Dominic and the charisms of the Order. Please pray for these men to continue answering the call to service in the Church and to bring many souls to Christ through their preaching, example, and faithful witness to the truth for the Salvation of Souls.

On 16 August 2025, the feast day of St. Stephen of Hungary, our fraternity welcomed Mr. Fabio Rancevas (left) and Mr. Derrick Baxtron (right) into the Syracuse Lay Dominican Order through the Rite of Reception. Both fathers of children like St. Stephen, these men have decided to live out their faith in the world within the charism of the Dominican Order as a witness to their families and the whole world while setting the example of strong faith and trust in Christ. Fabio was born in Brazil and lives in Canada. He performs the corporal works of mercy in his career for those suffering from addiction. Derrick's spiritual journey in life led him and his family on the path to Christ's Church as a strong witness to the faith and to his children. Through Derrick's leadership as the head of his family, he enjoys multiple members of his family serving as Lay Dominicans in the Syracuse fraternity. You can find Derrick at Transfiguration Church in Syracuse attending mass and honoring our Eucharistic Lord with great reverence in awe which is the example to follow. Upon entering the Dominican Order, Fabio took the name of Saints Joseph and Louis, while Derrick took the name of Blessed John of Vercelli who was the sixth Master of the Dominican Order. Please pray for our new Dominican brothers to live out their vocation in Christ.

RITE OF RECEPTION
June 21 2025
|
On 21 June 2025, the feast day of St. Aloysius Gonzaga, our fraternity welcomed Mrs. Cari Baxtron into the Syracuse Lay Dominican Order through the Rite of Reception. Cari is a faithful convert to the Catholic faith. Her spiritual journey to find Christ and the truth led her to Transfiguration Church in Syracuse and ultimately the Dominican Order. As a wife and mother of children, Cari's vocation in the Church is very important for the spiritual growth of those who see her witness to Christ. She also took the name of St. Catherine of Sienna on the day she was received into the Dominican Order. Balancing home life and service to the Church is not easy and is a very commendable task; especially when such faithful parents of children raise their kids up in the faith to know the Lord and to receive the life saving sacraments against the discouragements, distractions, and temptations of secular life. Please pray for our sister to have much success in the contemplative and apostolic life while continuing to serve as a witness to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
